What we collect, which is an email address if you give us one, and what we do not do, which is everything else.

The short answer

This site runs no advertising network, no third party tracking pixels and no behavioural profiling. The only personal data we collect is an email address, and only if you type one into the subscribe or contact form. It is stored to send you what you asked for, and you can have it deleted by asking.

01What we collect

If you submit the subscribe form we store the email address you entered, the type of subscription requested, the site it came from, the time of submission and the country code supplied by our hosting provider's network layer. Nothing else.

If you submit the contact form we store what you typed into it, so that we can reply. We do not use contact form submissions to build a marketing list.

02What we do not do

  • No advertising network operates on this site, so no advertising cookies are set.
  • No third party tracking pixels, no social plugins that phone home, no behavioural profiling.
  • We do not sell, rent or share your email address with anyone, including sponsors.
  • We do not use your data to target you elsewhere, because we do not run targeting.

03Cookies

This site does not set advertising or analytics cookies. Our hosting provider may set operational cookies necessary to deliver and secure the site, which is standard for content delivery and is not used to profile you.

Where we process your email address to send a newsletter you asked for, the basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. Where we process a contact message, the basis is our legitimate interest in replying to you.

Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it and object to processing. Ask through the contact page and we will act on it. The Information Commissioner's Office is the UK supervisory authority if you wish to complain.

05How long we keep things

Subscriber records are kept while you remain subscribed and are deleted on request. Contact messages are kept while a query is open and for a reasonable period afterwards in case it recurs, then deleted.

06Third parties

This site is hosted on a content delivery platform and subscriber records are stored in that platform's key value storage. Typefaces are served from a third party font service, which means your browser requests those files from that provider when a page loads.

External links go to third party sites with their own policies. Links to institutional sources are marked and we do not receive anything for them.

07Changes to this page

If this policy changes materially, the change will be described here rather than made silently. The last review date appears in the footer of every page on this site.

No commercial links on this page

This article contains no affiliate links, no sponsored placement and no link to any product, brand, retailer or clinic. Nobody paid for it, nobody previewed it and no sponsor can change a word of it. Our editorial standards set out the single disclosed exception, which applies to four archive articles and not to this one.

Nothing here is medical advice. Speak to a pharmacist, a GP or a dermatologist about your own circumstances.
